Workshop 8 - 2009
Workshop 8/09
The last workshop for 2009 was held on 29 October and the subject was:

Writing – Ways of developing our students’ written skills

After focusing on the skills of speaking, listening and reading in our last workshops, we wanted to focus on the skill of writing in this workshop.

All teachers were invited to bring examples of successful (or unsuccessful!) practice and/or examples of their writing lessons/exercises etc. to this workshop.

As always, we wanted to exchange and discuss these examples and develop new ideas about appropriate materials and how to use them. This was an opportunity to share experiences and ideas and receive feedback in a friendly and supportive environment.

Workshop 6 - 2009
Teachers Training workshop on 26 August 2009.

Listening – Ways of developing our students’ communicative competence

After focusing on the speaking skill of the students in the last workshop held in July 2009, in this workshop the focus was on the somewhat neglected skill of listening. All teachers were invited to bring examples of successful (or unsuccessful!) practice and/or records (recordings, notes) of their listening lessons/exercises etc. to this workshop. It was planned to exchange and discuss these examples and develop new ideas about appropriate materials and how to use them. This was an opportunity to share teachers’ experience and ideas and receive feedback in a friendly and supportive environment.

Workshop 5 - 2009
Teachers Training workshop on 22 July 2009.

A numbers of teachers from different schools attended the workshop.

This was about developing our students communicative competence. After focusing on the use of two languages by Teachers (English and target-Ethnic Language) in the previous two workshops, in this interactive workshop we learnt about ways of developing the speaking skill of our students. Most teachers like their students to use the target language as often as possible, but often wonder how they can achieve this more often and/or more successfully.

Some of teachers brought examples of successful or unsuccessful practice and/or records (recordings, notes) of the classroom and develop ways of increasing the oral use of the target language. This was also an opportunity to share their experiences and ideas and receive feedback in a friendly and supportive environment.

The next teachers workshop (06/09) is on 26 August 2009, the Thursday from 6 to 8 pm.

The teaches training workshop 4/2009 was running on Wednesday 24 June 2009. The numbers of teachers including a few new teachers were attending in this workshop. The topic for this workshop was:

"Exploring the use of the first and second language in the ethnic school context (part 2)".

In this interactive workshop we were continued and deepen our discussion about the benefits and disadvantages of using the target language and/or English in our lessons. Most teachers like their students to use the target language as often as possible.

This session was suitable for the teachers as well as for new participants. All participants were invited to bring records (recordings, notes) of their lessons to this workshop. We discussed when and how we and our students use the two (or more) languages in the classroom and develop ways of increasing the use of the target language. This was an opportunity to share our experience and ideas and receive feedback in a friendly and supportive environment.

Workshop 3/2009

The third workshop for this year (3/2009) was running on Wednesday 27 of May by Dr Elke Stracke and numbers of teachers from different schools were attending.

The topic was "Exploring the use of the first and second language ".

In this interactive workshop we reflected on the benefit and disadvantages of using the target language and/or English in our lessons. The teachers were very interested in to participate and sharing with the lecture to what are the pros and cons of using the English /target language for the management of learning activities.

In this session we discuss our answers with the whole group. Does the language we use vary from time to time and from class to class. Which language(s) do we use. These all questions have been analysed between the teachers and lecture.

These workshops are of great assistance to all our teachers. Having strong participation and also a wide spectrum of schools involved in the workshop shows that instructors are keen to improve their effectiveness.

The next workshop 4/2009 is on Wednesday 24 June 2009.

This workshop was suitable for the teachers who attended the previous workshop and as well as for new participants.

These workshops are of great assistance to all our teacher, having strong participation and also a wide spectrum of schools involved in the workshop shows that instructors are keen to improve their effectiveness. The participation of teachers in the workshop was highly impressed.
